Why the society connects its own account

Maintenance money belongs to the society. When the society connects its own payment account, it is the merchant of record: funds settle directly into the society bank account and we never hold, escrow or take a cut.

What you need

  • An activated Razorpay account in the society's name
  • A committee member with finance permissions signed in
  • Society PAN, registration certificate and bank proof for Razorpay's own KYC

Option A — One-click authorisation (recommended)

  1. 1Go to Society Settings → Payments and choose Connect with Razorpay.
  2. 2You are taken to Razorpay, where you sign in and approve access for the society account.
  3. 3You are returned to the Hub with the account marked Connected. Access is renewed automatically in the background.

Nobody at RentWithoutBroker ever sees your Razorpay secret. Access can be revoked from the Hub or from Razorpay at any time.

Option B — Your own API keys

  1. 1In the Razorpay dashboard, generate a Key ID and Key Secret for the society account.
  2. 2In Society Settings → Payments choose Enter API keys and paste them.
  3. 3Save. The keys are encrypted before storage and a test charge validates the setup.

Verify and go live

  1. 1Run the built-in connection test — it confirms credentials, currency and webhook delivery.
  2. 2Make one small live payment against a real bill and confirm it appears in the society's Razorpay dashboard.
  3. 3Announce online payments to residents from the Notice Board.

Troubleshooting

  • Reconnect needed — authorisation expired or was revoked; run Connect again
  • Payment succeeded but the bill is unpaid — check webhook delivery in the connection test
  • Wrong account connected — disconnect, which revokes access, then connect the correct account
  • Keys rejected — confirm the account is activated, not in test mode
